Sci-Fi 'Dramedy' "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World" Co-Starring Derek Luke In Theaters 4/20/12

This is a film I’ve been curious about since it was profiled on the site back in May, when it was about to go into production. Helmed by Lorene Scafaria, Focus Features‘ apocalyptic comedy-drama Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World opens in theaters on a limited release April 20th, 2012.

The film, about two neighbors (played by Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley) who go on a road trip together after an asteroid hits the earth, will co-star Derek Luke as Keira Knightley’s love interest. All we know about Luke’s character so far is that he is, “an Army man who wants her to join him in a bomb shelter.

The full synopsis reads, Set in a too-near future, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. Can one man find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge (Mr. Carell) and Penny (Ms. Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.”

Since the lead characters go on a journey in search for their significant others (Carrells’ Dodge is in search of his high school sweetheart, and Knightley’s Penny  goes after Luke’s character?); does that mean that, there’s a high probability these leads (Dodge and Penny) will wind up falling for each other instead? It’s likely.

Anyways, I’m intrigued about how Luke’s character has been developed, and if we will see an actual romance between Knightley and him; since he’s her love interest in the film. Will his race and/or interracial romance element be relevant to the film? It may very well not be, and his part might be rather small.

Sooo, we’ll see…
