Like many of you, I’ll be taking some time off over Christmas weekend, but please come back to this post and spend an escapist minute or two with some of the funniest videos of the year, from Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon in a live-action “Ambiguously Gay Duo” to Ricky Gervais’ notorious, scathingly funny monologue at the Golden Globes. Remember when the world pretended that was a problem? Gervais, of course, has signed on to host again. (Yay!)
You’ll also find Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in a Jersey Shore parody on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and Ryan Gosling proving he’s funny in a Fallon interview. (There is a lot of Fallon, who may be the best all-around late-night host. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are brilliant, but so topical their clips have a shorter shelf life.)
And the most popular and longest clip comes last: President Obama giving a killer stand-up monologue at the White House Correspondents Dinner last spring.
Enjoy! Thanks for reading all year, and I’ll see you after Christmas.
THE AMBIGUOUSLY GAY DUO
An all-star video from SNL. As animation turns to live action (of all sorts) Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon play the very close partners, battling villains played by Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell and Ed Helms.
RICKY GERVAIS HOSTS THE GOLDEN GLOBES
Here’s the monologue that made awards shows lively again. And the insult to Johnny Depp? Depp has done a Globes-referencing cameo on Gervais’ new series, Life’s Too Short. Take a look at that too.
JOHNNY DEPP IN LIFE’S TOO SHORT
SNL’s KARDASHIAN DIVORCE
Even if you think you’re done with the Kardashians, you won’t be able to resist this hilarious spoof, Kim’s Fairy Tale Divorce.
RYAN GOSLING ON LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON
While promoting Crazy Stupid Love, Gosling proved that he’s not the intense guy from Drive after all. Here’s Part 1 of the interview, with Gosling describing his misadventure in a Turkish bath.
TINA FEY AND AMY POEHLER IN JERSEY FLOOR
Fey and a very pregnant Amy Poehler turn up in the Fallon parody, in which the 30 Rock elevator stops at a floor that turns everyone into Jersey Shore characters.
OBAMA AT THE WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER
He hasn’t had a lot to laugh about this year. (It woud be quite unseemly to chuckle over killing Bin Laden.) But Obama skewered some very deserving targets here, including that blight on serious politics, Donald Trump. The best punch line? Trump is no longer running for president. Obama is.
