Would You Buy A Suit From The Blair Underwood Collection?

Would You Buy A Suit From The Blair Underwood Collection?

This is nothing actually to do about black cinema but definitely about the black image and how it’s portrayed in the media. But I’ll get to that in a second.. Last time we saw Blair Underwood he was the POTUS trying to save the world from alien conquest in NBC’s The Event last season. Now he’s selling suits.

This somehow got past us, but since this summer the K & G fashion store chain has been selling the Blair Underwood Collection of designer suits which, according to the store, has been a big seller for them, to date. Furthermore, TV commericals for the line will start showing up on the small screen early next year.

It was Underworood and his wife Desiree who came up with the idea of a designer suits line a couple of years ago, and took it to George Zimmer, the CEO of The Men’s Warehouse, who liked the idea and put it into reality.  Not only are the suits a success, but BU suits have also been donated to young men who are currently in foster care, as well as the winners of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Award.

Now there might be some who consider that it’s a sell out for Underwood to be the poster boy for a clothing line. But I say it’s a very smart move on his part. First of all, Underwood has been in the business long enough to know that the name of the game in this crazy business is all about marketing and branding. Getting your name and your image out there and keeping it there. And having your own clothing line is great way to do it. Hey Kimmy Kakes and the rest of those bottom feeding Kardashians do it, and they have NO talent, so why not Blair?

Second, and this where image comes in, he’s presenting to the public a sophisticated, elegant and professional image of black men. So who’s going to complain about that? Rather you want Lil’ Wayne to be our official representative?

And three, he’s making money. Who’s going to object to that?

As far as I can see, this is a win-win for Underwood all the way around. And he’s still acting, of course, soon to make his Broadway debut in a new production of Tennensee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire

So what do you say?
