‘X-Men: First Class’ Writer Jane Goldman To Pen ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children’ For Tim Burton

As the pen behind “Stardust,” “Kick-Ass,” “X-Men: First Class” and the upcoming period horror flick “The Woman In Black,” screenwriter Jane Goldman has established herself as one of the finest pens in the genre category. She’s proven herself to be just as good (if not better) than the dudes who tend to dominate in the genre, and if all goes well, her next effort will be brought to the big screen by none other than Tim Burton.

Deadline reports that Goldman has been tasked with writing “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children,” that Burton is considering to direct. Based on the book by Ransom Riggs, the story centers on a sixteen-year-old named Jacob who, following a family tragedy, sets off to an abandoned orphanage in Wales that his grandfather told him tall tales about, claiming it housed children who levitate, hold fire and communicate via telekinesis. Not only does he discover the stories were true, but these kids may have been dangerous and, moreover, they may still be present. So yeah, this is pretty much in the sweet spot for both Goldman and Burton and seems like a slam dunk, no brainer idea.

That said, Burton will likely wait to see a script before committing to anything, but we like Goldman and we hope her work brings something fresh to the table to keep it from what sounds like an almost too-easy premise for Burton. The project is over at 20th Century Fox, who are behind “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” a project that just happens to be also executive produced by Burton. And certainly, the studio was pleased enough by Goldman’s work on ‘First Class’ to bring her back into the fold.
