Presented January 16-19, in cooperation with the Sundance Film Festival, the Art House Convergence is an independent conference celebrating its fifth year serving the community-based, mission-driven Art House community in North America.
“The Convergence is such a great experience because you realize that you have a peer group,” said Andy Smith, Nickelodeon Theatre in Columbia, South Carolina. “Whether it’s sharing ideas for new programs or marketing strategies, or commiserating on the shared difficulties of our industry, it’s so great to know you’re not alone. We came home with pages of notes filled with ideas.”
Over 20 sessions and panel discussions will cover a wide range of topics including increasing and engaging audiences through film education, new media marketing, digital cinema, fundraising, programming, and financial management. Key note speakers include Tim League from the Alamo Drafthouse and the conference welcome will be by Steve Apkon, from New York’s Jacob Burns Center.
“A sustainable business model clearly exists for Art Houses,” says Russ Collins, Executive Director of the Michigan Theater – Ann Arbor and Chair of the Art House Convergence. “I firmly believe that through the Art House Convergence we are finding a collective voice, we are starting to believe in our potential and we are growing the number of communities throughout North America that are demanding community-based, mission-driven Art House cinemas in their towns.”
This year’s Art House Convergence will be at the Zermatt Resort in Midway, Utah, which is near Park City, home of the Sundance Film Festival. Last year the growing conference expanded into the Zermatt Resort and this year the entire conference will be a the Zermatt. It is a wonderful modern resort with a great spa and wired and wireless Internet connectivity. Conference amenities are first-class and the delegate rooms are spacious and up-to-date. Plus, you can enjoy a hot spring soak at the Homestead Crater, as well as sleigh rides, snowshoeing and all of the quaint outdoors activities of the Homestead Resort.
