George Clooney to Present Sean Penn with Critics' Choice Joel Siegel Humanitarian Award

The 17th annual Critics Choice Movie Awards on January 12 will honor Sean Penn with their Joel Siegel Award, to recognize his humanitarian efforts. Penn founded the J/P Haitian Relief Organization following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti exactly two years ago. George Clooney will present the award.

BFCA’s Joey Berlin says: “While it was heartening to see such an outpouring of support and aid for the Haitian people in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, the long-term commitment made by Sean and his organization is particularly notable. The Joel Siegel Award was created to spotlight such above and beyond efforts by the leading lights of our industry and its spirit is truly personified by Sean Penn.” Last year’s recipient was Matt Damon.

Martin Scorsese, whose “Hugo” is up for 11 Critics’ Choice awards, will also be honored with the Music+Film award. Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel are hosting the event, which will be broadcast on VH1.
