IN THE WORKS: Clooney's First Priority is Hitler-Art-Love-Story 'The Monuments Men'

“The Monuments Men” will be George Clooney’s next project. The film is based on Robert Edsel’s 2009 book about the art historians who came to Normandy to rescue art stolen by Adolf Hitler. A group of 11 art experts faced live fire to rescue the art, and not all of them survived. Clooney says he and his producing partner Grant Heslov are “already thinking about how great the casting can be,” adding that “there’s also a great love story.” Clooney announced the news at The Palm Springs International Film Fest, and says the project is his first priority (he’s attached to several other projects at various stages of development as producer, actor or director). Will Clooney also star in and direct this one? The material sounds Oscar-baity.

We’ll see him next in Alfonso Cuarón’s “Gravity,” alongside Sandra Bullock (November 21). It is Cuarón’s first directorial outing since 2006’s “Children of Men.”
