MPI Finally Bringing Guillaume Canet's 'Little White Lies' Starring Marion Cotillard & Jean Dujardin To The U.S.

It has been a long wait for the stateside release of Guillaume Canet‘s “Little White Lies,” his followup to the smash sensation “Tell No One.” And it’s bit baffling why it’s taken this long. The picture premiered at TIFF way back in 2010, and became a bit hit in its native France, and the film soon found releases in Canada and the U.K., but a U.S. deal didn’t seem to materialize for whatever strange reason. We can only guess its lengthy 154-minute running put folks off (it’s hard to get people to sit and watch a subtitled movie, let alone one that’s two-and-a-half hours long), but now that it’s coming, you should make some time to catch up with it.

ScreenDaily reveals that MPI has taken on the movie, with a spring theatrical and DVD/VOD release in the works. Starring Marion Cotillard, “The Artist” star Jean Dujardin, Gilles Lelouche and more, the ensemble dramedy centers on a group of longtime pals who assemble for their annual summer getaway in the wake of the death of a close friend. Over the course of the vacation, various secrets and dramas are confronted and dealt with, and yes, it’s all very “The Big Chill,” bit with a Gallic warmth that is endearing. We caught the film last year on its Canadian relase (review here), and while we had issues with the third act, for the most part, the film is a strongly acted, very perceptive, funny and subtle look at the shifting tides of relationships.

If that doesn’t convince you, the film also has a great soundtrack that includes David Bowie, The Isley Brothers, The Band, Janis Joplin, Gladys Knight & The Pips and more. Dates for the release haven’t yet been revealed, but you can watch the trailer for the movie below.
