Pingu the Penguin Stars in a Claymation Remake of “The Thing”

Pingu the Penguin Stars in a Claymation Remake of "The Thing"

Disappointed with that recent prequel/remake of John Carpenter’s “The Thing”? To make up for it, here’s a short redo of the 1982 version as reenacted by the claymation character Pingu. Not only does it make perfect sense for penguins to remake a sci-fi/horror film set in Antarctica, but this is a great day to share the video since it’s National Bird Day (see my list of bird docs elsewhere).

Not officially related to the “Pingu” TV series, this well-done bit was made by animator Lee Hardcastle, who regularly does claymation parodies of films “in 60 seconds.” In the past he has done videos for “Shaun of the Dead,” “The Life Aquatic” and “The Exorcist.” The one below is an extended version of his “The Thing in 60 Seconds” installment (watch the abridged video and making-of stuff at Hardcastle’s website).
