Strand Takes US Rights To 'Oslo, August 31st'

Strand Releasing has taken all US rights to Joachim Trier’s “Oslo, August 31st,” which debuted to strong reviews at the Cannes Film Festival last year and will soon screen in the Spotlight section of the 2012 Sundnace Film Festival.

The deal was done between Marcus Hu of Strand Releasing and Michael Weber of The Match Factory.

Strand Releasing has acquired all US rights to Joachim Trier’s OSLO, AUGUST 31st , a thoughtful character study of a young man whose day away from the drug rehabilitation center that he’s been recovering in, gives him a day to reflect on his life and the people he has touched.
The deal was done between Marcus Hu of Strand Releasing and Michael Weber of The Match Factory.
“With OSLO, AUGUST 31st we are happy to announce another collaboration with Strand.  Joachim’s film superbly reflects the anxieties of a whole generation and it made it to the top ten lists in Norway and has sold in over 20 territories.  We’re delighted that Strand will introduce this sensitive piece of art to American audiences,” said Brigitte Suarez of The Match Factory.
“Joachim’s a great talent and a filmmaker that is certainly in line with the kinds of voices that we support,”  said Gerrans.
The film which had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival as well as being selected for both the Toronto International Film Festival and the AFI Film Festival and will be showcased at the Sundance Film Festival this week.  It was also announced yesterday as a selection for this year’s edition of New Directors/New Films at the Museum of Modern Art this coming March.
Trier is participating in this year’s Director’s Lab as an advisor and will be at the festival to present the film with the lead actor, Anders Danielsen Lie in attendance.
Mr. Trier’s previous film was the highly acclaimed REPRISE which received numerous international awards including Best Director at Karlovy Vary and the Discovery Award at Toronto.
OSLO, AUGUST 31st  was produced by Motlys and Don’t Look Now.
Strand plans to exhibit the film in several other US festivals before opening this late spring.
Strand is based in Culver City, CA and is run by Gerrans and Hu.  Currently in release with Paddy Considine’s TYRANNOSAUR and Philippe LeGuay’s THE WOMEN ON THE 6th FLOOR.  Upcoming 2012 titles include Braden King’s HERE, Andre Techine’s UNFORGIVABLE, Athina Tsangari’s ATTENBERG, Danis Tanovic’s CIRKUS COLUMBIA and Markus Schleinzer’s MICHAEL.
