Alamo Drafthouse To Take Over San Francisco's New Mission Theater

Tim League and the Alamo Drafthouse are a force that will not be stopped, from expanding their exhibition reach beyond Austin, Texas to releasing foreign Oscar nominee “Bullhead” (more from the director and star here).

Check out League’s announcement of their plans to renovate the New Mission Theater in San Francisco:

We are planning on a full and complete historic renovation.  Even though our plan is to subdivide the balconies into small boutique theaters, we will be doing it in such a way as to preserve nearly all of the amazing architectural details of the space.  We would still preserve the massive downstairs screen and transform that space into a potential premiere venue with state of the art sound and picture.  We have been working hand-in-hand with the both historic and neighborhood groups to make sure that our restoration plans meet with their approval.  The great news is that the theater interior is largely in good shape.  A large percentage of the interior details have been preserved and even most of the light fixtures are intact.

I sat down for a flip cam interview with League at the time of the release of “Four Lions.” Never underestimate this guy. We’re doing a panel at the upcoming CinemaCon (the National Association of Theater Owners convention in Las Vegas in April) which should be revealing indeed. Exhibitors should pay him some heed, because he’s giving audiences what they want.
