‘Midnight in Paris’ and ‘The Descendants’ Win WGA Awards

'Midnight in Paris' and 'The Descendants' Win WGA Awards

The Writers Guild of America have their annual awards tonight in Los Angeles, in a variety of film and television categories.

“Midnight in Paris” and “The Descendants” were the big winners in the film categories, taking best original and adapted screenplay awards, respectively.

Notably, the film nominees faced considerably less competition here than they did at the Oscars.

Due to a variety of rules at the WGAs, the following films were not eligible here, a few of which ended up getting Oscar nods: “The Artist,” “Beginners,” “Drive,” “The Iron Lady,” “Jane Eyre,” “Like Crazy,” “Margin Call,” “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” “Melancholia,” “Rango,” “Shame,” “The Skin I Live In,” “Take Shelter,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” and “We Need To Talk About Kevin,” to name a few.

“The Artist,” for example, could give “Midnight in Paris” a run for its money at the Oscars.
