To ring in the 50th anniversary of the 007 franchise, Bond 23, “Skyfall,” will release in IMAX theaters simultaneously with the film’s international release on October 26th, 2012. James Bond fans will be able to absorb Daniel Craig’s rippling physique projected larger-than-life.
Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officers at MGM, don’t exactly phrase it that way, instead stating that “IMAX joining the festivities” is a way to celebrate the bi-centennial “in epic style.”
Little is known about “Skyfall,” with director Sam Mendes’ recent videoblog providing generic fawning sentiments about the production. The official statement of the plot vaguely alludes to a dangerous secret from M’s past:
“In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”
While Craig and Judi Dench reprise their roles as Bond and M, respectively, the film also stars Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris.
