Watch "100% Galsen" & "My Hip Hop: Cape Town" (Short Docs On Hip Hop And Identity In Africa)

Below, watch two short documentaries (25 minutes and 16 minutes) from the Redefinition: African Hip Hop project, courtesy of

The first, directed by Cheikh Sene, better known as the Senegalese rapper Keyti, is titled 100% Galsen (Galsen being slang for Senegalese).

The second, directed by Shanaz Adams, is titled My Hip-hop: Cape Town.

Both films have toured film festivals around the world over the last couple of years, and have now been uploaded to the web about a week ago, asking questions about what “African hip hop,” is, and the responsibilites of the hip hop artist. has made them available in celebration of its 15th year online; and as part of that celebration, the site will be sharing even more from the series, as well as “some very special tracks, videos, archival footage and other projects.
