However, this latest batch does focus on the ladies, offering up spreads for Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss and Alice Braga. Looking decidedly unkempt, Adams plays Jane (aka Joan Vollmer) who was a roommate of Edie Parker (who later married Jack Kerouac), and was the common-law wife of William S. Burroughs who tragically killed her by shooting her in the head during a drunken game of William Tell. Her apartment also served as a gathering point for the Beats in the early days. Moss plays the funkily named Galatea Dunkel (aka Helen Hinkle) a life-long friend of the Beats who featured in Kerouac’s book. Finally, Braga plays Terry (aka Bea Franco), a young Mexican woman Kerouac meets on his journey and exchanges letters with that he fictionalized in the novel.
So there’s your Beat movie news of the day. “On The Road” opens in the U.K. on September 21st and will mostly likely hit Cannes in May. [Facebook]
