Anthony Mandler Takes Over 'The Last Days Of American Crime'; Sam Worthington Appears Out But Is Noomi Rapace On Board?

Previously set up as a teaming between two action staples in F. Gary Gray and Sam Worthington, the gestating adaptation of the comic book “The Last Days Of American Crime” is getting a makeover. Anthony Mandler is now taking on the project as his feature directorial debut, and it appears that former producer/star Worthington is no longer attached.

Mandler has been flirting with his debut behind the camera for quite some time now, having built up a solid resume in the commerical and music video worlds. And, while it looks like Worthington isn’t on board any more, Mandler may have another quality thespian attached, with Deadline reporting that original ‘Dragon Tattoo‘ star Noomi Rapace, who’s kind of been sweeping her way through Hollywood recently, was also slotted to star, although it remains to be seen whether that’s still the case.

Adapted for the screen by Karl Gajdusek (“Trepass,” “Oblivion“), ‘American Crime’ is set in the near future where the government is going to rollout mind control technology that kills the criminal impulse, with our protagonists (Worthington’s former role; a career criminal and his heist team) plotting what may very well be the last crime in American history. No word on what role Rapace was slated to play, but we’d imagine it would be one of the team — unless a bold gender switch up is being planned for the lead…

Mandler is also attached to two other projects including the Charlie Hunnam-scripted vampire saga “Vladas well as crime-drama “Die In A Gunfight” starring Zac Efron. We’ll see which one makes it in front of cameras first.
