C4's Initiative For Showcasing New Talent Unveils 7 Drama Projects From Ashley Walters, Michael Ajao, Lydia Adetunji...

Named Coming Up, Channel 4’s annual talent initiative that offers up-and-coming writers and directors an opportunity to showcase their work on national TV, has unveiled its 2012 lineup, which also happens to be the programs 11th year in existence.

This year’s lineup will include 7 brand new original drama feature films to be shown on Channel 4, some involving Brit talent we’ve covered here on S&A like Ashley Walters (Top Boy) and Michael Ajao (Attack The Block), as well as names that I didn’t immediately recognize but will now start to follow, like Lydia Adetunji., who, my research tells me was originally a journalist, and then became a playwright and has now penned a screenplay for one of the 7 Coming Up features.

Coming Up epitomises Channel 4’s passion for discovering and supporting new talent. It’s a fantastic opportunity for emerging writers and directors to see their distinctive ideas realised on screen, whilst allowing audiences to get the first glimpse of the storytellers of the future. Add to the mix some of the most exciting current acting talent, and I think we can expect some thrilling pieces of work,” said Ben Stoll, Drama Commissioning Editor for Channel 4.
