Emily Watson, Jennifer Morrison, Zoe Kazan & Mia Maestro Join Neil LaBute Produced 'Some Girls' With Adam Brody & Kristen Bell

News of the film adaptation of Neil LaBute’s play, “Some Girls,” has been slim the past few months, with Kristen Bell coming on board a couple of days ago, and Adam Brody joining back in January, but recently a slew of impressive additions have emerged for the Jennifer Getzinger-directed film.

The plot follows Brody’s character, who on the eve of his wedding searches out his ex-girlfriends, all of whom are none too pleased for the surprise. According to THR, Emily Watson, the latest and final casting decision, plays one of the exes, Lindsay, while Zoe Kazan, Jennifer Morrison, and Mia Maestro play the other women. LaBute is producing the film with Leeden Media in addition to supplying the adapted script, so the final product is sure to retain his signature dialogue and witty characters.

Watson, who was so brilliant in her turn as Adam Sandler’s love interest in “Punch Drunk Love,” possesses an opportunity to bring a similar charm to this project, while Kazan, coming off of a fantastically subtle performance in “Meek’s Cutoff,” makes this film contain a wealth of independent talent.

It will also be interesting to see what Getzinger brings to the playwright’s material, stripping LaBute of the auteurship seen in such directorial efforts as “The Shape of Things,” “Your Friends And Neighbors,” and “In The Company Of Men.” Similar to David Mamet’s screenplay-credited films, a fresh aesthetic can bring an added visual touch that strengthens the material overall, as seen in Barry Levinson’s sharp editing and popping color choices in “Wag The Dog.” Then again, the script and talent involved with the project are enough to warrant a watch nonetheless. With casting complete, “Some Girls” should see production begin soon.
