Michael Fassbender is in talks to star in Gerardo Naranjo’s “The Mountain Between Us,” adapted by J. Mills Goodloe from Charles Martin’s novel for 20th Century Fox. The story is about a man and a woman who survive a plane crash in the Colorado woods and fall in love as they rely on each other for survival. Fassbender’s character is both a doctor and an experienced climber who is able to help his injured co-survivor down a mountain. The question is, which actress would we like to see Fassbender carry down the mountain?
Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark and Jenno Topping will produce. Naranjo’s 2011 film “Miss Bala,” Mexico’s submission for the Oscar, earned upbeat reviews during its festival run, which included Cannes and Toronto, and its release last January.
In addition to starring in Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” (June 8), Fassbender is set to star in the director’s “The Counselor.” But first, he’s reteaming with “Shame” and “Hunger” director Steve McQueen for “Twelve Years a Slave” (Brad Pitt is joining them and will produce through Plan B.) Who needs an Oscar nomination when you’ve already got the pick of the best projects?
