SXSW 2012 Preview – “Trash Dance” (How To Make A Garbage Truck Dance)

SXSW 2012 Preview - "Trash Dance" (How To Make A Garbage Truck Dance)

A SXSW 2012 doc feature profile we overlooked and I was just reminded of, so here it is…

Titled Trash Dance, the feature documentary centers on the collaboration between choreographer, Allison Orr and employees of the Dept of Solid Waste Services, to put together a dance performance involving the movements of the sanitation workers and their trucks.

Orr spent a year riding with trash collectors, getting to know each of them, and also to convince the skeptical trash collectors to commit to her plan of them performing in “an extraordinary dance spectacle.”

Further, the story continues…

On an abandoned airport runway, two dozen sanitation workers and their trucks inspired an audience of thousands with humor and real feeling in their final award-winning performance of public art.

Directed by Andrew Garrison, the film will make its world premiere at the 2012 SXSW film festival, in the Documentary Spotlight section.

Check out Garrison’s Kickstarter pitch below (he’s trying to raise funds to complete the film in time for its SXSW premiere), which also includes footage from the film itself:
