2012 Cannes Critics’ Week Program Unveiled

2012 Cannes Critics' Week Program Unveiled

The 51st edition of Cannes Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique) — running May 17-25, 2012 — has announced its selection.

The program will open with UK director Rufus Norris’ “Broken,” which stars Tim Roth and Cillian Murphy and is about a young girl who witnesses a violent assault.

The film will screen out of compeition, though like every film in competition, it marks a directorial debut. The seven films in the Critics’ Week competiton are all from newcomers, and also notably do not feature any films in the English language. And considering all but two are co-productions, a remarkable amount of countries are represented considering how few films there are: Spain, USA, Mexico, France, Belgium, Canada, India, Argentina, Germany, Croatia, Bulgaria and Israel.
