Anchor Bay Films Acquires Snoop Dogg/Wiz Khalifa Stoner Comedy "Mac and Devin Go to High School"

My last post on this, in February, included an announcement made at the then ongoing European Film Market in Berlin, as indie film distributor Revolver announced its upcoming 2012 slate of films, which included a comedy feature starring Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, titled High School

Today brings word that Anchor Bay Films has picked up US, Australia and New Zealand rights to Mac and Devin Go to High School, the same comedy feature starring Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. The stoner comedy is said to be inspired by Cheech & Chong, with Snoop saying that he and Wiz are essentially modern-day versions of that dynamic duo; the film’s supposed soundtrack of the same name, was released about a 3 months ago (Mac and Devin are the names of the characters that Snoop and Wiz play in the film).

Here’s THR’s longer breakdown:

The movie, directed by Dylan Brown, sees Khalifa as an academic overachiever struggling to write his valedictorian speech because he realizes he has little life experience. Snoop, meanwhile, is a senior now going on his 15th year of high school who has a thing for the new substitute teacher. The two find inspiration in each other and team to achieve their respective goals.

The movie also co-stars Mike Epps, Andy Milonakis and Affion Crockett and features a voice-over by rapper Mystikal, as well as a cameo appearance by the pop group Far East Movement.

So what can we expect from this sure-fire masterpiece of cinema?

“They smoked joints, they were funny, they were cool and they would get into real situations… So we’re the modern-day image of them. We’re bringing it back,” said Snoop in reference to Cheech & Chong, indicating what Mac and Devin Go To High School’s content might contain.

I don’t know whatAnchor Bay’s plans are for the film, but, based on the below trailer, I seriously doubt that a theatrical release is the film’s future; this thing is headed to DVD/VOD land; although, ya never know:
