Do Any of These Pilot Ideas Sound Like They Could Be The Next ‘Walking Dead’?

Do Any of These Pilot Ideas Sound Like They Could Be The Next 'Walking Dead'?

AMC held what’s becoming its annual new show “bake-off” last week, during which the six strongest scripts for potential series are presented to the network. After a few weeks of evaluations, they decide which, if any, will be made into pilots. Deadline has the list of the six contenders:

“Low Winter Sun,” from Chris Mundy (executive producer of “Criminal Minds”) is “an adaptation of the New Zealand Gothic murder mystery series,” though which series is unclear — the two-part 2006 BBC America crime film sharing that title is set in Scotland.

“Turn,” from Craig Silverstein (executive producer of “Nikita” and “Terra Nova”) is “about George Washington’s spy ring,” aka the Culper Ring, which was created to messages to Washington about the activities of the British in New York during the Revolutionary War.

Philly Lawyer,” from Richard LaGravenese (writer of “The Fisher King,” writer/director of “Freedom Writers”) is “about a law student.”

“Crystal Pines,” from Jake Paltrow (brother of Gwyneth, writer/director of “The Good Night”) and (artist?) Robbie Kinberg, is “about a journalist who signs up for a cloning experiment.”

“F/V Mean Tide,” from Jason Cahill (consulting producer on “Fringe” and “Surface”) is “about a Maine lobster fishing family.”

“Sacret Games,” from Kerry Williamson (writer of the upcoming Rob Cohen thriller “Alex Cross,” also adapting the Kay Scarpetta novels for a feature to star Angelina Jolie), is “an epic story of crime and punishment in modern Mumbai” based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel of the same name about a police inspector’s pursuit of a criminal overlord.

It’s impossible to tell what these proposals are like based only on the descriptions, but I’d love to see “Sacred Games” happen just based on the prospect of having a series set in India and with a majority Indian cast.

Last year, none of the six projects AMC had present were ordered to pilot.
