Entertainers in Time's 100 Most Influential People in the World Include Depp on Weinstein, Griffin on Handler, Tyson on Davis

Time has made its 100 Most Influential People in the World list; it’s both surprising and all-too predictable. Here’s a sampling of the entertainment side:

Kristen Wiig, Viola Davis, Rihanna, Chelsea Handler, Claire Danes, Louis C.K., Matt Lauer, Asghar Farhadi, E.L. James, Harvey Weinstein, Jessica Chastain, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Stephen Colbert, Tilda Swinton, Adele, Christian Marclay, Raphael Saadiq

To make clear who really is the most influential in the world, Time asked other celebrities to write flattering bios of the selected handful.

Johnny Depp on Harvey Weinstein: “There are producers, and then there are producers. Harvey belongs to the latter batch. It’s an elite club for those with the kind of maverick vision to bring such disparate films as ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘Kids’, ‘Finding Neverland’ and umpteen others to the screen with equal aplomb.”

Alyssa Milano on Mashable founder Pete Cashmore:”a leading light of the connected generation.”

Kathy Griffin makes Chelsea Handler come across as savvy, smart, as well as snarky.

Angelina Jolie sensitively addresses Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy‘s powerful documentary “Saving Face,” which brought the issue of Pakistan’s acid-violence to the “world stage.”

Sarah Jessica Parker‘s write-up on the “right hand of Alexander McQueen” is earnest —and incomprehensible.

Our favorites?  A lovely profile on Viola Davis from stage actress Cicely Tyson: “This acknowledgment speaks to the richness of her soul and how she has carried out her life as a mother, wife and actress. She affords me great hope for the future.”

In just a few lines, fashion-designer and Beatles’ sprig Stella McCartney makes us approve of Time’s selection of pop singer Rihanna: “She is one of the few people I know in that world of fame and celebrity who aren’t all about themselves. She’ll give a real part of herself to an ordinary person she may meet, and that’s rare.”
