IN THE WORKS: Endgame and FilmDistrict To Partner on Pastor Brothers Sci-Fi Thriller 'Selfless'

Producer/financeer Endgame Entertainment and indie distributor FilmDistrict have acquired the rights to “Selfless,” a sci-fi script by Spanish writer-directors Álex and David Pastor (“Carriers”).  Endgame Entertainment’s James D. Stern and FilmDistrict’s Peter Schlessel will produce with Ram Bergman, who produced Rian Johnson’s “Looper” and “The Brothers Bloom” (Summit), both backed by Endgame (“An Education,” “Every Little Step”), which will co-finance with the film’s stateside distributor FilmDistrict.

The casting of this should be interesting: in the story, a wealthy dying older man pays to have his brain transplanted into a younger man’s body (shades of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “The Mastermind of Mars”).  When he discovers how his new body was acquired, however, he goes rogue, defying the company who provided the body, which in turn sets armed mercenaries on him.

Johnson’s sci-fi thriller “Looper,” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as younger and older versions of the same character, along with Emily Blunt, will be released by Sony/FilmDistrict on September 28. Endgame is now shooting Steven Soderbergh’s “The Bitter Pill,” starring Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Vinessa Shaw.

FilmDistrict’s upcoming releases include Sundance hit “Safety Not Guaranteed” (June 8, 2012), remake “Red Dawn” (November 21, 2012), “Playing the Field” (December 25, 2012) and “Parker” (January 25, 2013).  The company is ramping up for an “Evil Dead” remake and a sequel to “Insidious.”
