IN THE WORKS: Wild Bunch, CAA Will Sell David Gordon Green's 'Suspiria' Remake at Cannes

Wild Bunch and CAA will sell territories at the upcoming Cannes market for David Gordon Green’s remake of the 1977 Dario Argento horror classic, “Suspiria.” The film will shoot in September.

Green (“All the Real Girls,” “Pineapple Express”) is directing the project from a script he co-wrote with Chris Gebert for producing partners Crime Scene Pictures’ Adam Ripp and Rob Paris, First Sun’s Luca Guadagnino (“I Am Love”) and Memo Films’ Francesco Melzi d’Eril (“I Am Love,” “Hotel Rwanda”). Rizal Risjad, Silvia Fendi and Philip Elway will executive produce and Lisa Muskat will co-produce.

Green is casting “Suspiria,” which centers on Suzie, an ambitious American student abroad whose tony European boarding school is the site of several bizarre murders. Is it actually the front for a more menacing operation? She was played in the original by Jessica Harper, who is married to Fox studio co-chairman Tom Rothman.

Crime Scene Pictures is backed by private equity from ArtPhyl and is in post-production on director Michael Hoffman’s “Gambit” for fall release by CBS Films (updated by writers Joel and Ethan Coen), which stars Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman and Stanley Tucci. Crime Scene is also ramping up production on Joe Lynch’s Kate Hudson thriller “Everly.”

Crime Scene partners Ripp and Paris stated:

“We love the style and energy of the original film – and David’s script brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant, classic horror film.”
