Aden Young Cast as Lead of Sundance Channel’s Upcoming Drama ‘Rectify’

Aden Young Cast as Lead of Sundance Channel's Upcoming Drama 'Rectify'

The Sundance Channel has been home to scripted programming in the past, including prestigious TV movies/mini-series “Carlos” (from Olivier Assayas) and “Appropriate Adult” (starring Dominic West and Emily Watson) but they’ve been acquired productions. The upcoming “Rectify” will be the network’s first original scripted series, a legal drama that, according to an announcement today, will star Australian actor Aden Young (“Killer Elite,” “The Tree”) in the lead role. From their release:

“Rectify” follows the life of Daniel Holden (Aden Young) upon his release from prison. After serving nineteen years on Georgia’s Death Row, DNA evidence casts doubt on the prosecution’s case. Holden was only eighteen years of age when convicted and sentenced to die for the brutal rape and murder of a sixteen year old girl. With doubt surrounding his innocence, Holden returns to his family and to his hometown where the murder occurred and where many still believe he is guilty. Daniel spent all of his adult life waiting to die. Now he must learn how to live again or decide if he even wants to while others determine whether or not he will have that chance.

Young is joining a cast that includes Abigail Spencer (who played Sally Draper’s teacher and Don Draper’s lover Suzanne Farrell on “Mad Men”), Clayne Crawford (“Justified”), Adelaide Clemens and the excellent J. Smith Cameron, who glowed in last year’s “Margaret.”

Keith Gordon (of “Waking the Dead”) will direct the first episode and serve as a producing director for the hour-long drama, which was created and written by actor Ray McKinnon (Linc Potter on “Sons of Anarchy” and soon to be seen in Jeff Nichols’ “Mud”).

The Sundance Channel, who premiere their latest nonfiction series “Push Girls” next week, will also be home to Jane Campion’s upcoming mini-series “Top of The Lake.”
