Lifetime Developing ‘Silence Of The Lambs’ Spinoff Series ‘Clarice’

Lifetime Developing 'Silence Of The Lambs' Spinoff Series 'Clarice'

TV shows based on films are nothing new, and although many are cynical cash grabs that disappear after a few seasons, a few have transcended their material and become great shows in their own right (see: “M*A*S*H*“). But that ratio hasn’t stopped Hollywood from continuing to try, and with shows coming up based onThe Transporter,” “Taken” and “The Kids Are All Right” you can now throw one more onto the pile.

TV Guide is reporting that Lifetime is rolling the dice on a drama based on the Clarice Starling character that was made famous by Jodie Foster’s Academy Award-winning turn in the 1991 adaptation of “The Silence Of The Lambs” (which itself is based on the book by Thomas Harris). The show will follow the titular character right after she graduates from the FBI academy.

But Lifetime’s isn’t the only TV show being adapted from Thomas Harris’ series of Hannibal Lecter novels. It’s been previously reported that NBC took the unusual step of skipping the pilot stage and ordering thirteen episodes of “Hannibal,” a one-hour drama series that will follow both Lecter and his FBI agent counterpart Will Graham (previously played by William Petersen and Edward Norton in “Manhunter” and “Red Dragon,” respectively). The NBC show will reportedly not include the Clarice Starling character, instead focusing on the origin of the serial killer. Currently, there’s no word on when the shows will appear on the airwaves, but one would assume that they could arrive as early as next year. Let’s just hope at least one of these is worth tuning in for.
