“Sombras de Azul (Shades of Blue)”
A young woman from Mexico journeys through Cuba in the aftermath of her brother’s suicide, searching for answers.
Maribel – a young woman grieving her brother’s suicide – books a one-way ticket to the place he’d always dreamt of going: Cuba. Among the rhythms and strangers of Havana, she attempts to escape her grief, but finds herself hounded by tortured ruminations and memories of him. Only when she bonds with Eusebio – a petty thief and woodcraftsman – does she begin to face her demons. Maribel soon recognizes a growing attraction between them, and must decide whether to open herself up to love and loss once again.

About the Production:
“SOMBRAS DE AZUL is rooted in my own experience of bereavement following the untimely death of my brother. As his younger sister, he was my hero, and his passion for literature, poetry, music, and cinema fed directly into my own. Thus, born out of my effort to heal, this film meditates on the magnitude of this loss in my life, as well as juxtaposes the process of grieving with the metaphoric loneliness of traveling through a country that, too, has healed from devastating wounds. Shot on-location in Cuba, SOMBRAS fuses narrative and travelogue to form a unique cinematic elegy.” — Kelly Daniela Norris
