A Never-Aired Episode of 'Happy Endings' Will Premiere at Outfest

Outfest is bringing some television to its 30th anniversary iteration.

The Los Angeles film festival, which announced a line-up that includes “Keep the Lights On,” “How to Survive a Plague” and “Struck By Lightning” earlier this month, announced today that it’s adding a screening of a never-before-broadcast episode of ABC’s comedy “Happy Endings,” to be followed by a Q&A with cast members Adam Pally (who plays Max), Casey Wilson (Penny), Stephen Guarino (Derrick), creator and executive producer David Caspe and executive producer Jonathan Groff.

The panel and screening will take place on Saturday, July 22 at 1:00pm at the Director’s Guild of America (DGA 1).

Max, the character played by Pally on the series, is widely heralded for going against small-screen expectations in terms of depictions of gay characters. His big romantic moment at the end of February’s “The St. Valentine’s Day Max-ssacre” episode topped Indiewire’s list of the 10 best LGBT scenes from the 2011-2012 TV season.

In addition to the “Happy Endings” event, the festival’s also offering “TV Comedy’s Come A Long Way, Baby!,” a discussion with television comedy writers and producers Gary Janetti (“Will & Grace,” “Family Guy”), Dan Bucatinsky (“The Comeback,” “Web Therapy”), Stan Zimmerman (“The Golden Girls,” “Roseanne,” “Gilmore Girls”), Jeffrey Richman (“Modern Family,” “Charlie Lawrence,” “Frasier”).

Eytan Fox’s Israeli film “Yossi,” the sequel to the international hit “Yossi and Jagger,” has additionally been added to the film lineup as a special screening.
