‘Friends With Kids’ Director Jennifer Westfeldt Developing HBO Series

'Friends With Kids' Director Jennifer Westfeldt Developing HBO Series

While “Kissing Jessica Stein” helmer Jennifer Westfeldt’s recent “Friends With Kids” was more of a “conventional look at unconventional relationships” than we had hoped for according to our review, we can’t deny that the writer-director consistently produces worthwhile adult fare – and certainly has proven to be far more than just “Mad Men” actor Jon Hamm’s long-time partner.

Talking up her latest work in ‘Kids’ — which opens in the U.K. on June 29 — with the Guardian, Westfeldt delves deep into the film’s themes and even her relationship with Hamm, but the nugget of information that really piques our interest here is that Westfeldt is currently developing a comedy/drama for HBO — which she also hopes to star in. Whether or not she’s trying to stay competitive with Hamm and “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner (we sincerely doubt she is) perhaps Westfeldt has been influenced by the great success Hamm has experienced on the small screen — a sentiment shared by many nowadays.

So what could it be? We’d love for Westfeldt to bring her insightful and humorous exploration of relationships to television, and with established small screen favorites like Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Hamm himself headlining ‘Kids,’ she could probably cobble together a pretty solid cast. Westfeldt is also an established television name herself, with plum roles in the Kiefer Sutherland-starring “24” and the forgettable sitcom “Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place.” We’ll have to wait for more details on this, but with Westfeldt and television juggernaut HBO working together, we’re sure it’ll be worth anticipating.
