Image Entertainment Catches SXSW Football Drama 'The Last Fall'

Image Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to “The Last Fall,” written and directed by former pro-football player Matthew A. Cherry. A 2012 SXSW Film Festival selection, “Fall” was picked up at the American Black Film Festival in Miami, where Image is a sponsor, for the distributor’s African-American-audience-targeted One Village Entertainment label.

“‘The Last Fall’ had a great reception during its initial premiere earlier this year and the excitement continues here at ABFF,” said Image SVP of acquisitions Brett Dismuke. “We’re extremely pleased to be able to offer it to audiences and to be working with Matthew Cherry on his debut release.”

“House of Payne” star Lance Gross headlines the romantic drama about a young football player who returns to his hometown after a few years in the game and tries to build a new life with his high school sweetheart and a regular job. Nicole Beharie, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Harry Lennix, Darrin Henson and Keith David co-star.

Nikki Love and Scott Hebert produced the film; Cherry, Gross, Ellis Hobbs and Monique Hobbs are executive producers.

One Village has released “American Violet,” “All Things Fall Apart” and “Russ Parr’s 35 & Ticking.”
