NEW YORK (Wednesday, June 27, 2012) – With the U.S. Supreme Court poised to release its historic ruling on the health care law and reignite a national discussion, International Film Circuit, Inc. today announced it will release Emmy Award-winning journalist and filmmaker Peter Nicks’ documentary THE WAITING ROOM in theaters this September.

For 25 years, International Film Circuit, Inc. has been successfully handling critically acclaimed and profitable theatrical releases. The company’s founder, Wendy Lidell, has driven successful distribution campaigns for many high-profile documentary films.

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the San Francisco International Film Festival, among numerous other accolades, THE WAITING ROOM has been called a healthcare movie the Supreme Court needs to see by both The Washington Post and Indiewire.

THE WAITING ROOM will open in New York, San Francisco, Washington, DC and Los Angeles in September, followed by other cities nationwide throughout the fall. The distribution effort will include a special focus on engaging national partners including patients and health care providers who are most affected by the issues addressed in the film.

THE WAITING ROOM puts a very human face on the debate around health care by taking us behind the doors of Oakland’s Highland Hospital, a safety-net hospital fighting for survival while weathering the storm of a persistent economic downturn. The film, employing a composite day-in-the-life structure offers a raw, intimate, and often uplifting look at how patients, staff and caregivers cope with disease, bureaucracy, frustration, hope and hard choices.
“As critics and festival juries have noted throughout the year, Pete’s film is both a tremendous artistic accomplishment as well as an incredibly powerful, timely and relevant verité film that brings audiences face-to-face with the current health care crisis facing the uninsured and underinsured,” said Wendy Lidell, President of International Film Circuit. “It is enormously gratifying to me to be able to contribute to the national debate on the very critical and timely issue of health care. I think audiences will be drawn to Pete’s seemingly effortless but very artful approach to storytelling.”
“It is an honor to work with Wendy and the International Film Circuit team on this national release,” said filmmaker Peter Nicks. “When we started this film project I never could have predicted the response we have received from audiences around the country.”
