Like I said last week, despite the criticism she got for “lowering the standards” of OWN, Oprah’s interview with the Kardashians was a rating stunt and nothing that should be so horrible or shocking, since she has to do what she has to do to get people to watch OWN.
And this past weekend, in a radio interview, she admitted as much.
According to Oprah, she did the interview because “they are a cultural phenomenon that I became very curious about. I talks (UH OH! There’s Oprah doing her patented “black dialect” shtick again) to people. That’s what I do.”
And she went on: “It’s the televsion business. So when people say “Are you trying to get ratings?” everybody who’s on televison is trying to get ratings. For 25 years I tried not to think about ratings. I just did what I did because I had a contract that gave me the freedom of not wot worry about ratings. But this is a business.”
Excatly. Doing a TV show is one thing, but running a network is another thing altogether. It’s a cutthroat world out there, and you do whatever you can to avoid getting eaten.
Just don’t do it using that “Yasuurh I sure is” black dialect cornpone voice.
