Besides writing poetry, painting and taking pictures, movie star Viggo Mortensen has another career as a Spanish-language actor. During his childhood, his family relocated from New York to Argentina (with stops in Venezuela and Denmark in between), where he lived until age 11, going to grade school in Buenos Aires and acquiring fluent Spanish. In 2006 he starred in “Alatriste,” and in 2011, Mortensen returned to his theatre roots in a Madrid production of “Purgatorio.” Now he stars in Ana Piterbarg’s “Everyone Has a Plan” (“Todos Tenemos un Plan”), which was recently at the Cannes market. Mortensen plays Augustin, a disillusioned man living in Buenos Aires. Upon the death of his identical twin brother Pedro, Augustin sees the perfect chance to start over. He assumes his dead brother’s identity, and goes to live in the Tigre Delta region of Argentina where the brothers spent their childhood. But Augustin has no idea of Pedro’s past involvement in the criminal underworld, and finds himself inheriting a dangerous and corrupt life that he thought would bring him fulfillment.
