5 Best (Non-Olympic) Things to Watch on TV This Week: Supermodels and Racecar Drivers

Sure, Sunday is overcrowded with high-end TV like “True Blood,” “The Newsroom,” “Weeds,” “Breaking Bad” and “Political Animals,” but what to watch the rest of the time? Each Monday, we bring you this guide to five noteworthy highlights from the other six days of the week — even if this week, you’re probably glued to the Olympics like everyone else.

“Senna”: Broadcast Premiere
Monday, July 30 at 8:30pm on ESPN 2

Okay, the actual broadcast premiere of Asif Kapadia’s stunning doc about racecar driver Ayrton Senna was last night, on the 29th, but “Senna” reairs on ESPN 2 tonight and is a must-see, a tragic, thrilling look at a man who’s a genius at the sport that ultimately gets him killed.

“About Face: Supermodels Then and Now”: Broadcast Premiere
Monday, July 30 at 9pm on HBO

This documentary from Timothy Greenfield-Sanders (director of “The Black List”) features interviews with iconic models like Christie Brinkley, Jerry Hall, Bethann Hardison, Beverly Johnson, Paulina Porizkova, Isabella Rossellini and Cheryl Tiegs in which they discuss the industry, beauty, aging, partying and plastic surgery. A Porizkova money quote: “What people called sexual harassment, we called compliments.” “About Face: Supermodels Then and Now” premiered at Sundance earlier this year.

“Workaholics”: Season Finale
Tuesday, July 31 at 10:30pm on Comedy Central

Comedy Central’s not-half-bad sitcom about roommates who are also coworkers at a telemarketing company ends its third season with “Flashback in the Day,” which will show how Adam (Adam DeVine), Blake (Blake Anderson) and Ders (Anders Holm) first met. The episode is directed by Kyle Newacheck, a member of the comedy group Mail Order Comedy along with the show’s three stars.

Myrna Loy
Thursday, August 2 at 6am on TCM

Turner Classic Movies offers up a day of movies featuring the fabulous Myrna Loy, starting at 6am with “The Great Divide” and including “The Best Years of Our Lives,” “The Thin Man” and “Cheaper By The Dozen,” 14 films in all.

“Comedy Bang! Bang!”: “Adam Scott Wears A Red Oxford Shirt & Jeans”
Friday, August 3 at 10pm on IFC

The immensely likable Adam Scott guest stars on Scott Aukerman’s deconstructed talk show this week, with Paul F. Tompkins making an appearance as “Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.”

Also work a look: BBC America offers “The Science of Doctor Who” (because who doesn’t wonder how plausible that series is?) on Saturday, August 4th at 9pm.
