Casting Watch: Williams Lines Up Two Movies to Start in July and September

Robins Williams has signed on to shoot two back-to-back movies. First up, he plays president Dwight D. Eisenhower in Lee Daniels’ next film, “The Butler,” which is scheduled to begin filming later this month in New Orleans. Williams joins a sprawling ensemble including Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Vanessa Redgrave, Terrence Howard, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda and Colman Domingo.

Adapted by Danny Strong and Daniels from Wil Haygood’s Washington Post article about the life of Eugene Allen, the movie charts a White House servant who worked for eight First Families over three decades. The film’s producers are Daniels, Hilary Shor, Cassian Elwes and Pam Williams for Laura Ziskin Productions.

Next, Williams stars as “The Angriest Man In Brooklyn,” as an obnoxious patient who is mistakenly told by a stand-in doctor that he has 90 minutes to live. The medic tries to track him down after he goes on a speedy apologetic good-bye tour of his life. Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, Melissa Leo and James Earl Jones also star.

Phil Alden Robinson directs the screenplay by Daniel Taplitz for a September New York start.  Landscape’s Bob Cooper and Tyler Mitchell are producing with Daniel J Walker, with Jean-Charles Levy as executive producer.

In the can are supporting roles in Arie Posin’s indie comedy “The Look of Love,” starring Annette Bening and Ed Harris, which is seeking a distributor, and “The Big Wedding,” starring Robert De Niro and Amanda Seyfried (Lionsgate, October 26).
