“Bruno and Earlene Go To Vegas”
Bruno & Earlene are going to Vegas. They’re going to rob a plastic surgeon and gamble the spoils to fund a trip to Paris. Simple, right?
When old friend Earlene turns up on the doorstep of ’extremities model’ (hands and feet) Krista in Los Angeles, a spark is ignited that inspires them to take a trip to their dream destination of Paris. Problem is, they’re out of cash, and instead wind up in a ghost-town in the Nevada desert populated by an assortment of Las Vegas rejects: ex-strippers, go-go boys, drag queens and dreamers.
Bruno & Earlene Go To Vegas is a genderqueer road movie, an inverted Western.
Writer/Director – Simon Savory (Stud Life)
Actress/Editor – Julia Sandberg Hansson (Postal, The Kreutzer Sonata)
About the Production:
I want to make films about characters on the fringes, planting them in mainstream narratives and watching the resulting sparks fly. Bruno & Earlene Go To Vegas combines typically male gendered genres (road movie, Western, buddy movie) and populates them with characters rarely associated with those genres. At the same time they are not objectified, they do not exist in that realm out of happenstance.
It is a story about love between two friends, about accepting differences and fighting back when society’s norms put you in a corner. It’s also about letting your hair down and raising some hell.
