Watch: 'Hell on Wheels' Remains Grimy in Its Second Season

“A lot of unfinished business, Mr. Bohannon.” AMC’s Western drama “Hell on Wheels” returns for a second season on Sunday, August 12th at 10pm, and from what we can glean from the network’s promo below, the transcontinental railroad is still being built, Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) is still pursuing vengeance and opportunities to take baths remain few and far between.

While the History Channel’s immensely successful “Hatfields & McCoys” demonstrated audiences aren’t afraid of Western-inflected TV series, “Hell on Wheels” has kept steady ratings while being wildly uneven in terms of quality. It remains, however, attractively grubby in its period stylings, and Mount makes a solid gravelly-voiced protagonist.
