Jodie Foster Developing ‘Sopranos’-Style Crime Series ‘Angie’s Body’ at Showtime

Jodie Foster Developing 'Sopranos'-Style Crime Series 'Angie's Body' at Showtime

“Weeds” is coming to a close at the end of its current season and “The Big C” is getting four episodes to wrap up in 2013, so Showtime’s in the market for a new edgy, female-led drama. And according to the Hollywood Reporter, the premium channel’s now developing one with Jodie Foster.

The Oscar-winning actress is attached to direct and executive produce crime series “Angie’s Body,” which is described as a “‘Sopranos’-like drama” that “centers on a shrewd and lethal woman who runs a family-based crime syndicate.” Rob Fresco (of “Heroes” and “Jericho”) wrote the script.

If picked up to series, “Angie’s Body” will be Foster’s second project with Showtime — she produced the 1998 movie “The Baby Dance” for the network, with Stockard Channing and Laura Dern in the lead roles.

Showtime’s got two new series set for next year — “Masters of Sex,” with Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, and Liev Schreiber vehicle “Ray Donovan.”
