Kevin Costner Eyes Jack Ryan Reboot & Luc Besson Produced 'Three Days To Kill'

Is Kevin Costner ready for a multiplex comeback? At one time, the actor was a big star, who could carry both drama and comedy to big box office success. The late ’80s and early ’90s in particular saw him handle an incredible run of films that included “The Untouchables,” “Field Of Dreams,” “Bull Durham,” “Dances With Wolves,” “Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves” and “JFK.” And while he hasn’t had that kind of success in quite some time, the massive critical and popular approval of the miniseries “Hatfields & McCoys” (22 Emmy nominations) along with a role in the upcoming “Man Of Steel” could mean a comeback is around the corner.

Deadline reports that an offer is out to the actor to take a role in Kenneth Branagh‘s Jack Ryan reboot as well as in the Luc Besson-produced and co-written (with Adi Hasak) “Three Days To Kill.” In the former, he’d play a mentor to Chris Pine‘s young recruit — not unlike James Earl Jones‘ Admiral Greer in “Patriot Games” who will also apparently be appearing — while in the latter, he’ll play a dying assassin who wants to reconcile with his daughter while embarking on his final mission. Like a terminal “Taken” then or something? No director yet but apparently McG (shudder) is circling, which should be a word of warning to anyone kicking the tires on that. Either way, some choice roles and perhaps Costner is getting picky as the site adds that despite previous reports, he is not joining the track and field drama “McFarland” from “Whale Rider” director Niki Caro.

So now that this is all laid out, we’ll see how it ends up being played out. Offers are one thing, but signing contracts is another…
