Lisa Cholodenko To Direct D.C. Set Mystery 'November Criminals'

With Lisa Cholodenko‘s “The Kids Are All Right” now a couple of years in the rearview, she has yet to get behind the camera of her next feature. But it’s not as if she’s short of options. Among the projects she has been linked to in the past little while are the family film “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” with Steve Carell, the indie dramedyThe Abistence Teacher,” and the outdoors dramaWild.” While those continue to percolate, she’s lined up another pic that looks like a bit of a gear shift.

The Wrap reports that Cholodenko is attached to direct “November Criminals.” Steve Knight has penned the screenplay that centers on a student who delves into the Washington, D.C. underbelly to solve the mystery behind the death of another student. It sounds like a push into genre territory for the helmer, which would mark a new direction, and an exciting one. She’s shown she can handle drama and comedy (sometimes all at once), as well as creating layered characters. If she brings all those skills to bear on a mystery, we’d be interested to see the results.

No word yet if this will be her next pic, or where it lies on her slate, but it’s another option. We just hope one of them rolls soon.
