Morgan Spurlock Heads to CNN With New Weekend Series 'Inside Man'

The insanely prolific Morgan Spurlock has already had two documentaries in theaters this year — “Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope” and “Mansome” — while producing and hosting a second season of his Hulu show “A Day in the Life” as well as his Yahoo web series “Failure Club.” And now the filmmaker and on-air personality is headed to cable news, where he’ll be hosting a producing a new original series called “Inside Man.”

This new show is, like the announced Anthony Bourdain-hosted foot and travel-centric series it will air alongside on weekends, part of CNN’s attempt to diversify its programming and address its low ratings. Both new series are being produced by outside companies, in the case of “Inside Man” through Spurlock’s Warrior Poets.

“Inside Man” will debut on CNN in April 2013 and will feature Spurlock offering the kind of tour through underreported on subcultures and industries that the Oscar-nominee has made his own. CNN promises the show “will provide an insider’s view into rarely-seen sectors of American life that include gun lovers, marijuana growers, migrant farm workers, and end-of-life caregivers.”

According to Spurlock, “We have wanted to make a smart, challenging and entertaining network show for the past few years and we couldn’t have found a better partner to accomplish that with than CNN. I am energized by this opportunity and am thrilled to be bringing this show to the network.”

“Inside Man” will mark Spurlock’s return to network television after the end of his FX show “30 Days,” which ran for three seasons from 2005-2008. Before his documentary career, he was the creator, producer and a host of the MTV series “I Bet You Will.”
