‘Snow White and the Hunstman’ Star Claflin Confirmed for ‘Hunger Games’ But Will He Do SWATH Sequel?

'Snow White and the Hunstman' Star Claflin Confirmed for 'Hunger Games' But Will He Do SWATH Sequel?

Universal was originally planning a “Snow White and the Huntsman” sequel that would bring back both Kristen Stewart and director Rupert Sanders. The idea behind the first David Koepp script turned on doing more with the unresolved romantic triangle between Snow White (Stewart), the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and William (Sam Claflin).

The news that Universal was moving on from Koepp’s script was of course linked by the media to the Stewart/Sanders/Pattinson romantic triangle. Truth is, Universal was most interested in capitalizing on the rising stardom of Stewart’s hunky co-stars, Hemsworth, coming off Marvel’s blockbuster “The Avengers” and with the “Thor” sequel still to come, as well as Claflin, who is now officially confirmed to play heroic District 4 victor Finnick Odair in “Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire,” a juicy role that will build his profile. Universal denied dumping Stewart per se. (Watch the studio offer Sanders another movie.)

But will Stewart fans still want to salivate over a virginal Snow White choosing between two swains, “Twilight” style? Truth is, any sequel is a long way off, when Stewart and everyone else will have moved on to new things.

In the meantime, Pattinson has in his usual classy style taken the high road while promoting David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis,” and Stewart, 22, is planning to attend the Toronto Film Festival to support Walter Salles’ “On the Road.” As she should. Still ahead: the press gauntlet on the last “Twilight: Breaking Dawn” installment due November 16.

Claflin is the next one to watch. He started out in a romantic role in the last version of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “On Stranger Tides,” and recently finished filming “The Quiet Ones” opposite Jarred Harris, and “Mary & Martha,” starring Hilary Swank. “The Hunger Games” could make him a star.
