The Divorce Stays in the Picture: Vince Vaughn Rebooting 'The Brady Bunch' For CBS

“Dallas” is back on the air on TNT as if the Ewings never stopped scheming, even when the cameras weren’t running for two decades, and now the Bradys look to be returning to televisions near you, this time focused on Bobby (who also has a thing for blended families).

As reported by Deadline, CBS has put in a script order for a “new take” on “The Brady Bunch” co-developed and executive produced by Vince Vaughn and written by Mike Mariano (of “Raising Hope” and “My Name Is Earl”).

The multi-camera sitcom project will feature a divorced Bobby Brady bringing children of his own to a new marriage with a woman who has her own kids — and both their exes will also be in the picture.

While it doesn’t seem likely that, should this next-gen Brady saga end up on air, it will be particularly subversive or anything other than a straightforward sitcom (it is CBS, and it is based on a famously family-friendly property), the idea that the parents in the picture have former spouses is a stark contrast to the original. In the 1969-74 “Brady Bunch,” Mike Brady was a widower and the fate of Carol’s first marriage was never discussed. Creator Sherwood Schwartz had wanted the character to be divorced, but the network didn’t want it to be mentioned.
