Universal has been moving around its release slots. We already detailed changes on the release dates for Ron Howard’s Chris Hemsworth NASCAR vehicle “Rush,” Tom Cruise in sci-fi epic “Oblivion,” and Guillermo del Toro’s horrific “Mama” here.
Now the studio is giving “Kick Ass 2” a release date of June 28, 2013, right in time for the fanboy summer movie glut. Meanwhile, a few other Universal titles are doing the shuffle: due to extensive (and expensive) reshoots, “47 Ronin” has been pushed back almost an entire year from February to December of 2013, while Spielberg’s beloved dino flick “Jurassic Park” will re-release in 3-D and IMAX 3-D a few months early, moved from July to April of 2013. (More on studio reshoots and changing tentpole strategy here; more on Universal’s possible management shifts here.)
Comedy “Identity Thief,” starring Jason Bateman and “Bridemaids” darling Melissa McCarthy, has been moved up from May to February 18, 2013. “Love Actually” creator Richard Curtis’s time-travel romantic comedy “About Time,” starring Rachel McAdams, now lands on May 10, 2013, while Denzel Washington/Mark Wahlberg actioner “2 Guns” is set for a late summer berth on August 16.
Supernatural action-adventure flick “R.I.P.D.,” with Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as co-leads, has been pushed back a few weeks to July 19.
