Zurich Film Festival to Pay Tribute to 'Cloud Atlas' Co-Director Tom Tykwer, Richard Gere and John Travolta

German filmmaker Tom Tykwer, whose big-budget epic “Cloud Atlas” (co-directed by Lana and Andy Wachowski) premieres in Toronto in a matter of days, will receive a tribute at this year’s Zurich Film Festival with a special ceremony and retrospective. Previous honorees have included Milos Forman, Roman Polanski and Oliver Stone.

Best known for helming “Run Lola Run” and “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” Tykwer also co-founded the Berlin-based film production company X Filme Creative Pool GmbH, along with the non-profit organization One Fine Day e.V., which promotes and supports artistic education in Nairobi, Kenya. That project has since spawned One Fine Day Films, an alternative film production company focused on introducing young East African talents to the process of filmmaking.

In addition, the festival also will honor Richard Gere with its Golden Icon award; John Travolta with its Golden Eye award; and producer Jerry Weintraub with its career achievement award.

The festival runs September 20-30. Go HERE for the full lineup.
