Could this be the year when Ben Affleck adds a Best Director Oscar to his mantle? If the buzz out of Telluride and heading into TIFF is any indication, he’s got a helluva shot with “Argo.” His ’70s set thriller and satire is already earning some strong advance praise, and with it set to hit theaters in just a few weeks, the promotional push is going hard.
Warner Bros. has dropped a new TV spot for the movie that adds in some brief bits of new footage and if anything stokes excitement for the picture. Also starring Affleck alongside a roster of talent that includes Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Richard Kind, Scoot McNairy, Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Taylor Schilling and more, the film tells the true life tale of a CIA mission to rescue Americans trapped in Iran after the 1979 revolution, under the guise of making a Hollywood movie. And yes, it really happened, and as we said in our review it’s “a captivating and thoughtful true-life drama that boasts a story so astonishing, it could only be told in the movies.”
“Argo” opens on October 12th. [Collider/LA Times]
