Having devoted most of his career to date to massive spectacle on the big screen, Michael Bay looks to be getting into television in a major way this year. Having sold eight-episode pirate series “Black Sails” to Starz in May, he also docked a pilot for post-apocalyptic series “The Last Ship” at TNT in July.
And now, according to Deadline, the blockbuster king is set to executive produce supernatural drama “Occult” at A&E — the network’s just given the project a cast-contingent pilot order.
“Occult” is about an FBI agent who comes back from administrative leave after having a breakdown while investigating the disappearance of his wife. He’s paired up with a female agent who specializes in the occult to take on cases for a new occult crimes task force. This should be comfortable territory for “The X-Files” and “Millennium” writer James Wong (who most recently worked on episodes of the new season of “American Horror Story”), who’ll script the series.
Typically working with writing partner Glen Morgan, Wong wrote 15 episodes of “The X-Files,” including stand-outs “Beyond the Sea” and the terrifying “Home,” quite possibly the series’ most frightening moment.
On the scripted side, A&E also has “Psycho” prequel “Bates Motel” headed to series and a pilot for Danish adaptation “Those Who Kill” in the works, with Wong’s frequent collaborator Morgan on board to write the latter.
