Denmark Makes Foreign-Language Oscar Submission 'A Royal Affair'

Denmark has selected the Mads Mikkelsen-starring fest favorite “A Royal Affair” as its entry for the 2013 Best Foreign-Language Oscar race. The film premiered in Berlin in February, with recent screenings at Telluride and Toronto. Magnolia releases the film stateside on November 9.

Set in 18th-century Denmark, the film looks at a lusty affair between the Danish queen (Alicia Vikander) and the king’s physician (Mikkelsen). Mikkel Boe Folsgaard, who took home the top acting prize at Berlin, plays the cuckhold king.
